My college-level teaching experience covers a broad range from our most at-risk students taking developmental writing classes to mature professionals working on an advanced degree or certificate. In addition, my work with the Morehead Writing Project has led me to work with students in grades K-12. While I incorporate many practical lessons and applications into my teaching, I also know that I cannot possibly cover every lesson in one semester and so my main focus is on helping my students become reflective writers as reflection is the key to achieving the goals of self-regulation and self-efficacy.

I began teaching full-time for Morehead State University in Fall 2001 and have taught a variety of writing classes including developmental writing, composition, creative writing, and technical composition. Since 2004, my teaching load has consisted primarily of online general education writing classes. I pitched, designed, and piloted this program to serve the needs of our growing nontraditional student population and have since learned that it benefits student athletes as well as more traditional students enrolled in tightly-scheduled majors (such as music and health sciences). For the past three years my teaching load has also included the Morehead Writing Project Summer Institute which is six hours of graduate course work.

My experience at Eastern Kentucky University as both a graduate assistant and visiting instructor also included teaching developmental writing and composition. As a graduate assistant, I also worked as a writing center tutor.

My early teaching experience included teaching GED for Williamson Central Schools in New York State for six years as well as for Fayette County Schools in Kentucky. Prior to that I taught at Ansonia High School as part of a graduate assistant program.
